A new, modernised point-of-sale system was being implemented and the project team wanted to prototype an eLearn to help train end users. The eLearn had to be flexible and engaging, allowing the nationwide cohort of very diverse learners to get comfortable with the new user experience, and could be easily scaled to include other topics as the project evolved.
The prototype I built as a proof-of-concept was an interactive simulated eLearn built with Articulate Storyline. The entire training was designed to emulate the new POS environment, so learners could experience the new system from the very start. The training was also non-linear and featured a virtual assistant to guide learners as they navigated topics most important to them and their respective stores, and prompt them with knowledge checks and hotspot tests on the new UI.
I began by spending time in stores researching to understand staff workflows. The fast-paced nature of the stores meant that learners wouldn't have a lot of time to sit down and do longer training, so this led to the decision to create a prototype that mirrored the POS visuals and provided learners with a flexible, modular experience. The project team was impressed with the initial proof-of-concept, and it was a key step in helping the organization prepare its workforce for the new platform.
